Digital Body Fat Scales
Now a days, in the era of stress and changing lifestyles endocrines and lifestyles disorders are on verge. Obesity is one of the fastest growing medical and social challenge now a days. According to the textbook of medicine, obesity is defined as the increased adiposity in the body. There is no direct measure to asses the body fat, but there are certain methods by which it can be assessed.
Body Fat depicts the content of fat reserve in the body. Weight is not the only criteria for assessment to body fat scales. Nutritional status directly relates to body fat scales. It is seen that body fat scales may get altered in many systemic disorders. So at that point of time it becomes necessary to assess an individual as a whole.
Now days, most widely accepted norm to asses body fat scales is assessment of body mass index or BMI. It is calculated by dividing the weight of an individual by square of his of her height in centimeters. International guidelines now clearify that BMI of more than 24.9 is risk factor for developing obesity. BMI of more than 30 indicates abnormal body scales and obesity.
The other methods include assessment of body fat scaled clinically. There are majorly two patterns of obesity, pear shaped and apple shaped. Pear shaped obesity is more common in females as they tend to put on extra fat around their hips, thighs and back. In apple shaped pattern, which is more common in males there is deposition of fat around abdomen. One more method is used to assess the body fat scales that is Skin Fold Thickness (SFT), measured as thickness of fat around skin fold.(commonly triceps fold is considered as landmark). Biochemically one can go for complete lipid profile.
